The doors are open, the shutters are up, the questionable 90’s music is blaring – the Fitforit Studio is open for training again!
The doors are open, the shutters are up, the questionable 90’s music is blaring – the FitForIt Studio is open for training again!
It would be an understatement to say that it has been a strange time for Glasgow, so we want to take a moment to thank everybody for bearing with us, adapting to a new and unusual style of training, and keeping one another accountable.
As we return to something approaching normality, now is a good time to talk about how to come back to training after a long break from it. It might be five months or longer since you last lifted a weight (especially if you tried to buy them after lockdown started, oof), and we’ve all understandably been moving much less than we usually do. So here’s the bad news first: your body will take time to re-adapt, and you might not be where you were five months ago. The good news, however, is that it really does not take that long to get back to where you were. Try to be patient with your progress, especially in strength or cardio training, and focus on consistency.
If you’re annoyed at having put on some lockdown pounds (like most of Glasgow, we reckon), then remember that fitness and health are habits and routines, not short term fixes. Your lifestyle – the lifestyle that we’re always telling people is central to long term results – has probably been uprooted and messed around quite a bit, so give yourself some love and be patient. Also, the post-leg-day soreness is going to hit new levels, so brace yourself for that. Speaking from experience here. Also please send help, I’ve been stuck on a stairwell for hours and it’s getting cold.
We’ll sign off with a heads up about what’s changed in the studio. We’ve marked out spaces for you and your personal trainer to make distancing easier. We’ve changed our calendar system to help make sure we don’t have too many people in at once. We have new hand sanitiser stations, and cleaning stuff by each station so that your personal trainer can wipe everything down when you’re done. We’ve got masks for our personal trainers, and we’re keeping personal stuff at the stations rather than the kitchen, to stop traffic jams in the (fairly small) kitchen. We’ve got extractor fans installed, more dehumidifiers, and we’re keeping the door open to maximise airflow. We’re taking this as seriously as we can short of wearing hazmat suits – which are awful to do squats in anyway.
More than anything else we want to say thank you for your patience and your support over the last five months, and it’s been great to see everyone back in the studio!
